Stairs

So yah, I've totally noticed that I get tired taking the stairs at work now. Out of breath.. haha Never ever had that problem before. Kinda neat I guess. I guess lugging an extra 35 lbs up the stairs could do that.

Also, 170 this morning. Kinda surprised. I've been eating well. That's fine though, holding steady for awhile like I mentioned.

Consultation for my breat augmentation surgery tomorrow! w00t! I'm happy. =)

Just a quick question, how many calories do you consume a day ? I am a 21 year old man and it takes me on average 2,600 calories a day just to maintain 129lbs! I have been recording it since the beginning of the year! It seems very strange I am still so light on 2600 a day, to gain weight I'd probably need about 6,000!

Metabolism and daily activities contribute to your overall weight, too.

I asked Yum if she worked out at all in the past, and I think the answer was no (aside from mundane life stuff, I guess). I don't know how tall she is, either. Anyway, until recently, I think she was trying to stay around 1600 calories a day. Once she started on the oil, strict loyalty to that faltered a little, and some days we'd see she had over 2400 (or just post pictures of something yummy).

I think if you're at 129, you technically need about 1300 calories a day to keep that weight. If you're using an excess 1300, then you either do a lot or have some pretty potent genes. Once you figure out what you're not burning off, I think you subtract the needed calories to what you ate, then divide those by 3500 to get +/- result. Short of super gorging, the number is usually small, but even if you ate a lot, I'd personally question how much your body actually processes.

But yeah, let's say we did the 2600 calorie thing and you didn't work out much. 2600 - 1290 = 1310 over, so you're gaining. 1310 / 3500 = 0.374. You'll probably gain about a 1/3 of a pound there if it's truly absorbed in its entirety, so 3 days of that would finally have the pound show up on the scale.

Don't take my numbers to heart, though. I'm just trying to go by memory on some stuff I read. Usually calorie crunching goes toward weight loss, while a lot of people who wanna gain just eat lots of fast food or something.

Those pounds are dropping off pretty quickly, hopefully it was just a normal fluctuation, haha

Switchsword,

I have always had a fast metabolism and been skinny, so I recon my genes must be mostly to do with it. I walk about 2-3 miles a day but that's about all my exercise. I think if I only ate 1300 calories a day I would die! I am over 6ft tall but never been more than 134lbs. I'm not currently gaining at all my weight has been 129.3-129.8 for the last few weeks. Once I tried gaining weight on 4,500 calories a day and was unsuccessful but then I only tried for 2 weeks.

Grr I can't stand being skinny though lol! I'm very healthy with low blood pressure and well nourished however.

I'm enjoying this blog and its updates! It reminds me of a project done years ago on "the spark" called "the fat project" but that was to gain 30lbs in 30 days, a bit aggressive perhaps!

Richard - yah, guys need more to maintain their weight because of hormones.. I just need 1,600. If you know 2,600 maintains your weight though that's a great start! 3,500 calories in addition to what you need daily = 1 lb gain... so you could try 3,100 calories for 1 lb gain a week or 3,600 for a 2 lb gain a week. See how that goes =)

Plus, weight gain is all about persistance. We gain slow but if you are consistantly eating more calories it will show up for sure =) good luck. =)

Hey Richard again, in response to your 2nd post.. =)

yah, exercize burns calories! so you have to subtract that from your total intake too... calories burned from walking varies on weight and speed

http://www.diethealthclub.com/calories-burned/calories-burned-walking-4-miles.html

but they say that the avg person burns 4 calories per minute... sooo maybe start with that estimate and check out that link if you want to be more exact.

and eat more..lol or get hardcore and drink olive oil.. i swear it works and its healthy. =)
